You choose the programme and the size of the group. I choose the boat and the anchorage. That is the difference between hiring a hull and spending a day at sea.

The Sète coast and Mont Saint-Clair

Ten minutes out of the harbour the town turns side-on and the hill appears all at once, with the lighthouse at its foot. We follow the corniche: cliffs, the marine cemetery below, and a string of small coves that no road reaches.

The water is clearer here than in the lagoon, the bottom is rocky, and a mask is genuinely worth carrying. The trade-off is that the coast depends on the wind: with a settled tramontane the chop turns short and hard, and the programme moves to the lagoon.

The Étang de Thau

Some twenty kilometres long, a few metres deep, and water that stays flat whatever the wind. That is what makes it the safest ground for a group, for children, or for anyone who is wary of the sea.

We navigate between the oyster tables, cut the engine in the middle, and the tasting happens there, on the water, opposite Bouzigues. Flamingos stand along the edges. The flip side of the shallow bottom: you have to know the channels, and that is exactly what a skipper is for.

What passengers say

The first reviews will come in over the season.

The skipper

I have sailed this coast long enough to know where the wind drops and what time the light turns good. You tell me who is coming and what you want to do. I take care of the rest.
